This is just what i can think of right now. and i canapos;t put them in order.

apocalypse dudes by turbonegro - possibly the best european rock record ever. i almost had an orgasm the first time i heard this.

candy snatchers by candy snatchers - not the best record ever made, by any standard. but it was the first one that really got me excited and made me pick up a guitar. although i was listening to punk and was around the scene long before, i was never really impressed with much of the music. it was all posturing. these guys were really pissed off and drunk, and they put could play. they sounded like cocaine and beer. they put in riffs like keith richards and chuck berry, and the singer belted it out like a fucked up old rockabilly howler who just caught his wife cheating.

grace by jeff buckley - my first sensitive-guy pick. this came at a big turning point in my life. well, thought it was. i guess the turning started there and didnapos;t actually finish until my late 20apos;s. my girl gave this to me four years after buckley died, and i wondered how i couldapos;ve missed this guy in the first place. what a voice, what an arranger. he only really finished this record, and i donapos;t know if he couldapos;ve kept it up after this, but this one is beautiful from beginning to end. also brings out some great memories.

closing time by tom waits - one of the first cds i bought when i came to vancouver. i remember listening to them in my empty apartment (which i was too poor to furnish) and sitting in the dark with candles everywhere (because i couldnapos;t afford the electricity). it was a depressing time. i didnapos;t know anybody. i used to save enough money every day to buy one pint of beer at the bar up the road, which i would nurse for hours, hoping somebody would come and talk to me. but they never did. i would listen to this to fall asleep at night. this and johnny cash and hank williams. also, i was convinced somehow that i had AIDS. donapos;t ask. weird times indeed. but also some kind of romantic youthful memories.

different class by pulp - this album convinced me that all british music didnapos;t suck. just most of it. nah, i joke. later i found a goldmine. but this was the beginning.

iapos;ll take care of you by mark lanegan - markapos;s got my all-time favourite voice. and also my all-time favourite persona. heapos;s a bad motherfucker. there is no acting. what you see is what you get.

exile on main street or let it bleed by rolling stones - canapos;t decide which was more exciting for me. but theyapos;re cliche picks anyway. because theyapos;re both great.

blood on the tracks by bob dylan - best break-up record ever, hands down. good old bob. he was deliciously bitter sometimes. right up my alley. i dig darkness...

berlin by lou reed - ...and this is the darkest album iapos;ve ever heard. still gives me the chills. probably the most hopeless, sociopathic and frightening thing ever recorded.

raw power by iggy and the stooges - james williamson does the best rock guitar work ever. totally underrated guitar player. i listen to this and it makes me want to practice. jeff gave me this one when he was cleaning out his old LPs, along with go girl crazy by the dictators. i had just bought the dead boys and new york dolls records. combined with those, this was the one that pushed me over the edge and made me want to go around and tell all the young punks what they were missing.

ok, thereapos;s more... iapos;ll have to continue this tomorrow...
